Perfect Pantry Organization with Closet Maid & Giveaway
by Pam on March 1, 2013
I am a closet slob. I admit it. People visit my home and think things are neat and in order because, thankfully, they never peek into my closets. It’s not all my fault. Our closets were short on shelf space. Each one has a shelf or two and the rest is floor space. I’d try to straighten and then the rest of the family would dig through, making a mess, until they found what they wanted. The worst was our pantry, located in the hall beside our kitchen, which we had dubbed “the closet o’ plenty.” Why had it earned this nickname? Besides holding food it was the catch all closet. I had added items I didn’t have a place for but didn’t want to get rid of—photo books of the kids, office, school and craft supplies, small kitchen appliances and even light bulbs. I dreaded opening the door because it felt like I was taking my life in my own hands. I never knew what might come tumbling out. When Closet Maid offered me a closet makeover for my pantry using their Shelf Track and Shelf liner I hoped organization was around the corner.

The Shelf Track and Shelf Liner come ready to be assembled and with all the necessary equipment but the shelves have to be cut to fit the measurements of the closet. We gathered the basic tools to complete the installation—a drill, a handsaw (wire cutters could also be used), and a screwdriver. I experienced a few moments of trepidation when Bryan was ready to begin because he is not exactly “Mr. Handy,” but he managed to complete the project in a little over two hours, including removing our old shelving and installing the new system. He says that now he has completed one closet he will be able to complete future closets much more quickly.

I was left with the task of organization. Having plenty of shelves has made a world of difference. I was able to make a shelf for baking supplies, a couple of shelves for photo supplies, shelves for food and a shelf for my “extra” stuff. I was so proud of my closet I have dragged everyone into the hall to show them my handiwork. Seriously. When one of my daughter’s friends who is home from college came over I told him as soon as he arrived, “Check out the closet o’ plenty!” I was so impressed that I purchased units so I could redo the linen closet and one of bathroom closets and a small Closet Maid cabinet for my dad’s kitchen. (I found mine at Home Depot.)
- Plenty of shelves (we had two rows of shelving left over)
- Shelf Liner can be wiped clean –great for when messy kids spill something
- Fairly Easy to Install, no complicated tools needed
Check out their facebook page too!
The only thing I would have done differently is paint my closet before the shelves were installed. I see closet organization in my future!

If he’s not a handyman, he did a good job of faking it. Or maybe it’s just that’s quite an awesome set of shelving.
