Krispy Kreme Blogger Summit 2013 =Doughnut Paradise

In January I was invited to attend the Krispy Kreme 2013 Bloggers Summit. It took me five seconds to respond, “Yes! Yes! I want to attend!” We were treated like royalty during the trip, touring the factory and chatting with the chefs and other employees. I enjoyed all of our activities but my favorite was when we were invited to make our own doughnuts and coffee drinks. Imagine being given yummy Krispy Kreme doughnuts, offered two choices of tempting fillings and having an entire table covered with toppings, glazes and treats. I began my process by filling my doughnuts to the brim with dulce de leche filling. I’m talking so full that I noticed a little bit of filling trying to escape from the bottom of my doughnut.

I dipped my doughnuts in a creamy glaze and then began the hardest job of all-deciding how I would decorate my doughnuts. I couldn’t believe all the available toppings. I made four doughnuts to bring home to my family and tried to create a different design on each doughnut. The fun didn’t stop with creating our own doughnuts. We were able to dip doughnut holes in a chocolate fountain and ~~eat them right awa~~y decorate them with different toppings.

After I finished creating my doughnuts I wandered over to the drink counter to make some yummy coffee drinks. This turned out to be an experience with all the different syrups, coffee blends, milk and whipped topping that could be added. I think my final creation was a Salted Caramel Mocha frappe. Whatever it was, it was delicious and was created with the Krispy Kreme house blend coffee. I appreciated the time the Krispy Kreme employees took to listen to our ideas. They asked for suggestions on products and really care about pleasing their customers. Plus, I liked how they marketed doughnuts as a special treat, not an everyday addition to our diet. Although don’t get me wrong, I wish they could be a daily treat!

If this weren’t enough to send us into Carb overload, we were told we could take home as many doughnuts as we wanted. Wow! I snagged a box of Lemon Crème filled doughnuts to take along with the four I had created. My strategy was simple: if I couldn’t get on the plane with doughnuts, I would offer the Lemon Crème filled doughnuts and hang on to my creations for dear life. Thankfully, no doughnut bribes were required, although my plane was stranded due to a snowstorm and I shared some of my Krispy Kreme lemon filled doughnuts with fellow passengers.
