Getting Healthy & Happy in 2013

by Pam on January 23, 2013

I have reached the point in my life where I no longer do New Year’s Resolutions. I decided most goals I’ve set over the years, from losing twenty pounds to not eating chocolate, have been impractical and usually unattainable.  I am revved up for a few days and then, boom, someone brings some sort of delicious dessert that tempts my motivation.  This year I have to work toward a healthier lifestyle and set goals I could attain.  I plan to begin bike riding three times per week, working toward twenty miles per ride and begin eating more fruits and veggies. I’ve found I feel better when I eat foods with fewer preservatives and plan to cook more meals completely from “scratch.”

One of the reasons I have failed to obtain my health goals in years past is the time factor. It’s difficult to cook meals completely from scratch without some time saving appliances in the kitchen.  To make my own bread dough I had to stir the batter by hand as my puny little mixer was not cut out to take that kind of strain.  This year I want to invest in a high quality mixer that will stand up to tough challenges.  And I mean literally stand there because I want one with a base that will not move. I am tired of having to clean splatters off the wall from moving bowls when the kids want to help me cook.  For any husband or children who might happen to be reading this and want to make my life easier,  a Kitchen Aid Classic Stand Mixer in Whitewould be a great addition to our kitchen.

Although I am for anything that makes my life easier and I want to be healthier, I have a caffeine addition.  My children don’t even bother to talk to me until I’ve had my morning jolt.  I have a weakness for the frou-frou coffee drinks that are served in coffee shops but I don’t have the budget to support my habit.  I discovered I could make these drinks at home for the fraction of the cost if I purchased my own coffee machine and added special flavors of coffee.  The Keurig B-70 brewer makes one cup of coffee at a time, saving money by allowing me to brew the amount I want with no waste.  Plus, I couldn’t believe the amount of different flavors available.  I could drink different flavors for several weeks before I began repeating flavors.   And as my family knows, a caffeinated mom is a happy mom.

I have both of them, but I honestly didn’t know Best Buy sold that kind of item. Good to know!

My mixer is one of my most treasured gifts ever- and so is my Keurig, even though it was a gift we bought for ourselves!
