Each year the kids and I make a Gingerbread house to decorate for the season. I think the only reason the kids like to make the house is to eat the icing and the décor as they decorate. Sometimes I think they eat more than they use to prepare the house. This year we received a Lyndon Reede Gingerbread House kit from BJ’s wholesale club to prepare. The kit was housed in this lovely box and included the basic house pieces, a Christmas tree to add to our yard and jellybeans, peppermints and other sweets for décor. My favorite touch was the bag of premade icing with a designer tip already attached.
Unfortunately, a couple of the walls cracked during shipping so we had a difficult time getting them to stay together. The kids didn’t mind at all. They put the walls down on the table and used the icing and designs to make patterns. “This gingerbread and icing is better than the house kits you usually buy,” they informed me. I have a feeling we will be using Lyndon Reed Gingerbread kits for all our future house design projects.
One of my favorite tips is to shop at a warehouse club for supplies for my holiday parties. I can purchase bulk items cheaper than I can buy a smaller amount of the same items at the grocery store.
