I have been shopping at Hallmark for most of my adult life. For years I purchased cards for all occasions and collectable ornaments at their stores. Then I begin to discover all the other offerings Hallmark has for children. One of my favorites is their interactive story buddies, cuddly plush animals that come alive with their own special stories. There are five buddies to choose from; Abigail, a sweet rabbit, Nugget, the cuddly puppy, Christopher, a not-so-sleepy teddy bear, Jingle, the holiday pup, and his girlfriend, Belle, Bigsby, the not so scary monster, Watson the mischievous raccoon, Cooper the friendly teddy bear and Scooby Doo, everyone’s favorite crime solving dog.
Each of these interactive pets comes complete with their own storybook. When the kids are reading along with the book, the story buddy magically chimes in along with certain sections of the story. Additional story books for each of the story buddies can be purchased as well. There are other ways to interact with the story buddies also including downloadable apps for iPad and iPhone. These apps can be customized to record your voice to help read to your little one when you can’t be there, perfect for a family in which one of the parents’ travel often. Some of the coordinating books feature accessories, like the latest book from Abigail which includes a bunny sized purse that allows children to play along with their story buddy.
We received Jingle as our story buddy. I gifted it to a friend’s daughter who has always wanted a “puppy of her own.” It may not be the real thing, but she was thrilled to have a dog to cuddle and “talk” to whenever she read the story. Jingle is around twelve inches high, just the right size for snuggling during the day and night. Jingle has been receiving a lot of attention and has a special place in her bedroom dedicated to him. I’m happy that I am helping to encourage a love of reading!
