Around our house we love creative toys. If you do too enter the Mining for Gems giveaway to bring your little one some science fun.
A few years ago, when we had out-of-town company, the weather was simply perfect for a summer evening stroll, and we took a walk across the pasture to explore the creek bed. We dug around in the rocks a bit and wound with up with two fascinating finds to share with my sons- one small lump of Kentucky coal and another quarter sized rock specimen with a shell fossil embedded. From that point forward, my youngest son developed a keen fascination with rock collecting.
He still has the original two treasures that sparked his interest along with a number of special finds he has gathered while on vacation, at Mammoth Caves, and even a glow-in-the-dark rock set we found once at book fair. So, when I saw Discover with Dr. Cool’s amazing line of kits, I knew I’d found a learning toy that would be an immediate hit with my little guy!
In fact with digging kits, dinosaur kits, fossil kits, geodes, shark kits, volcanoes insect kits and much more- There’s a Discover with Dr. Cool set suitable for every child on my holiday shopping list.
In particular, the Mine For Gems Science Kit stood out as it includes real gemstones, rocks, and minerals for the child to discover using digging tools and brushes. I think the colors, sparkle, and intrigue of the rocks and gems in Mine For Gems will be a desirable addition to any rock collection or will offer a great start for a new passion.
The Mine For Gems Science Kit also includes a full-color identification guide with information about each of the stones, offering additional opportunities for learning and enhancing the child’s excavation journey. (Personally, I simply love toys that promote learning while fueling or creating new passions for earth exploration!)
I also think the Discover with Dr. Cool sets would make super fun gifts for adults. For example, the “Gold Nugget Dig Kit” or “Learn How to Pan For Gold Kit” would make great gifts for Discovery Channel’s Gold Rush or Bering Sea Gold fans. And the “6 Geode Starter Set” would delight any craft lover and certainly a college student who would appreciate some bling in their dorm room.

Well………….. I know two boys who would probably prefer the dino dig! But, I know ONE girl in particular who loves geology already, and this jewel dig would be just the thing! These are THE best sort of gifts for kids, trust me. They prefer them over any toys after a certain age. My grandkids have informed me of this! It is wonderful to hear them say “Gramma, YOUR presents are always the BEST”
