Creating Cactus with Dune Craft & Giveaway

by Pam on November 26, 2012

One of our favorite family stories is of when my husband decided to sit down in a bed of cactus outside of his home. Let’s just say the experience did not “end well”. Everyone giggles and guffaws over this story except Bryan who spends time mumbling, “I don’t even remember this. I was two!” This has piqued the kids’ interest in anything cactus related which works well with my plans to entice them with creative and educational activities.

Recently a package arrived from Dune Craft, the makers of unusual science projects and nature products that appeal to all ages.  “What’s that?” my husband queried when I opened the box.  “It’s a LED lighted Grow Your Own Cactus Garden,” I informed him. “Would you like to sit on it?”  This earned me a glare and a hearty, “No, thank you. I will pass.” The kids, on the other hand, couldn’t wait to get started.

The Mini-Cactus Garden kit contained everything we needed to get started with our project; potting soil pellets, cacti seeds, a terrarium with a lid, 15 powerful LED growing lights and a complete set of instructions with an information sheet.  All we needed to add to get started was water and within a week we would have a variety of cacti that had begun to grow.

Cacti are my kind my plants.  They require hardly any water, meaning if we forget to water them (which does happen around our house) they will be okay.  They are easy to care far, unlike some of the plants we have grown in the past, and they clean the air and remove electromagnetic magnetic rays from cell phones and computers.  I’m using this as one of the kids’ Environmental Science and Geography projects.  I love it when I’m able to get double duty from a product!

I’ve got my eye on other Dune Craft kits for future educational projects for the kids.  They’re having fun and learning without realizing it. That’s my kind of toy!

Win It!
One person will receive a Cactus garden from Dune Craft.
